Jet Support Services, Inc. (JSSI) announces the winners of the first JSSI Choice Awards at the 2014 Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition (ABACE). The new JSSI Choice Awards were established last year at a private conference that JSSI and the China Business Aviation Group hosted by invitation-only. The three-day event involved industry professionals from numerous segments of business aviation, including aircraft management leasing and finance, sales and maintenance, as well as aircraft owners’ representatives.

JSfirm.com, an online aviation-only job board, has released its 5th Annual Hiring Trends Survey. Jeff Richards, JSfirm.com Manager says, “This annual survey has proven to be accurate in past years at forecasting the hiring trends and is highly anticipated by the aviation industry.” In summary: •  400 aviation companies across various sectors were surveyed •  91% will hire in 2014 (up from 85% in 2013) •  Skilled maintenance technicians will be in highest demand

The country of registry controls the maintenance of the aircraft. This seems like pretty basic stuff. Unfortunately, the international aspects of the aviation maintenance industry can create unnecessary costs without a corresponding safety improvement. Even so, international requirements must be understood to support worldwide operations.

West Star Aviation announces it has appointed Dan McKillips as regional sales manager. McKillips will be responsible for the Southeast region of the U.S., which includes Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. held a signing ceremony on April 15 with Minsheng Financial Leasing Co. Ltd. at the Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition. The ceremony recognized Minsheng’s order for 60 Gulfstream aircraft, which was signed in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The D.O.M. magazine staff attended the MRO Americas trade show and convention in Phoenix April 8-10. It was a great show – the show floor was busy as exhibitors showcased their products and services. I was able to get some interesting article ideas and learn about some great new products that will be in future issues of D.O.M. magazine.

Don Snodgrass was going through his desk drawers in March, throwing away junk and packing up stuff he wanted to keep in advance of his company’s move to its new facility. This led him to find a couple of relics from a wildly circuitous global aviation career path that took him from a farm south of Dallas all the way back to … well, a metal building south of Dallas.

Jet Aviation Singapore has significantly increased the size of its Interior Shop at its new hangar facility to expand its interior services capabilities from minor interior repairs and touch ups to full interior aircraft refurbishment. The new facility’s 420 square meter Interior Shop is outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment for upholstery, wood and veneer finishing and carpeting.
