JSfirm.com, an online aviation-only job board, has released its sixth annual hiring trends survey. Jeff Richards, JSfirm.com manager, says, “This year’s results show that our industry is continuing to trend in the right direction. There will be more hiring in 2015 than any of the past six years.”
In summary:
• 342 aviation companies across various sectors were surveyed
• 92 percent will hire in 2015
• 78 percent are projecting growth in 2015
• 72 percent did not cut jobs in 2014 (up from 68 percent in 2013)

Continental Motors Group, an AVIC International Holding Corporation company, has partnered with Xinjiang Tianxiang Flight School in Xinjiang Province, Northwest China to expand its CD-135 powered DA40 fleet. Tianxiang’s current fleet of 16 will expand to 30 with four aircraft delivered in March and 10 more delivered by end of 2015.

Avionics technicians are in a class of their own when it comes to the government’s definition of the aviation maintenance workforce — but the rest of the industry requires special treatment, too.
Information is the oxygen in the modern age, but the aviation maintenance industry — and the government — is suffocating from a lack of accurate data. Repair stations continue to struggle to find qualified maintenance technicians; however, a 2014 report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) concluded there was no evidence of labor shortage.

The price of oil has fallen dramatically since the summer of 2014, with a slight recovery in early 2015. While the latest price drop is nothing out of the ordinary from a historical perspective, the cause and effect might impact the move to alternative aviation fuels if prices persist at a low point for a long period of time.

Today, EASA published a temporary recommendation for airlines to ensure that at least two crew, including at least one qualified pilot, are in the flight crew compartment at all times of the flight. Airlines should re-assess the safety and security risks associated with a flight crew leaving the cockpit due to operational or physiological needs.
