Boeing [NYSE:BA] announces that Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has signed agreements for several Boeing solutions to increase efficiency and streamline maintenance performance tasks across the airline’s global operations. The tools from Boeing – Airplane Health Management, Maintenance Performance Toolbox and Loadable Software Airplane Part Services (LSAP Services) – will leverage real-time information to optimize SWISS airplane maintenance performance operations. SWISS will implement these Boeing fleet and maintenance tools with its new fleet of Boeing 777 airplanes.

Elliott Aviation announces it has hired Brian Everson as Jet Service manager. Everson will oversee jet service employees at Elliott Aviation’s headquarters in Moline, IL. This includes employees in its Hawker, Citation, Beechjet, Phenom, Premier, and Challenger teams. With over 32 years of aviation experience, Brian was most recently employed with Gulfstream Aerospace - Appleton as quality control analyst for eight years. The majority of his experience has been centered in the areas of corporate and turbine engine troubleshooting, maintenance and quality control.

GKN Aerospace joins forces with Durham University to develop and implement an ultra-sensitive test method to accurately measure improvements in airframe drag performance. The test is being used to identify surface coatings that will reduce drag by 25% when compared to traditional aircraft surfaces - and when tested in typical aircraft cruise conditions.

West Star Aviation receives supplemental type certificate (STC) for the upgrade of the Honeywell CAS-81A/TPA-81A or the CAS-100A/TPA-100A with 7.0 software to the CAS-100B/TPA-100B with 7.1 software. This approved model list (AML) STC is applicable to various Hawker, Citation, Challenger, Falcon, and Gulfstream aircraft models. TCAS II 7.1 software improvements include the level off and reversal logic functions. Europe mandated the new software requirements effective December 2015. There is no proposed FAA mandate for TCAS 7.1 at this time.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issues a safety alert to U.S. and foreign commercial passenger and cargo airlines, urging them to conduct a safety risk assessment to manage the risks associated with transporting lithium batteries as cargo. The FAA also is issuing guidance to its own inspectors to help them determine whether the airlines have adequately assessed the risk of handling and carrying lithium batteries as cargo.

Emirates contracts Lufthansa Technik to overhaul the landing gear of its Boeing 777-200ER/300 classic fleet. The five-year agreement covers 13 shipsets. The formalisation of this contract reflects Emirates' long-standing relationship with Lufthansa Technik, which dates back to 2005. The work will be performed by Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear services UK (LTLGS), located in Hayes, London, in the United Kingdom.
