West Star Aviation Recognized as Gold Leader from Colorado's Environmental Leadership Program for Third Consecutive Year

West Star Aviation is recognized, for a third consecutive year, as a gold leader from the Governor's Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) in Denver, CO. The Environmental Leadership Program is a state-wide recognition and reward program offering benefits and incentives to members that go above and beyond compliance with state and federal regulations and are committed to continual environmental improvements. West Star Aviation entered the Colorado Governor's Environmental Leadership Program in October 2010 where they first were awarded a bronze. They attained silver status from 2011-2013 and gold status from 2014-present.

West Star's cumulative environmental achievements since 2010 have consisted of several eco-friendly accomplishments. West Star recycled 4,000 pounds of e-waste; 31,550 pounds (477 batteries) of lead acid and NiCad aircraft batteries; 31,831 gallons of lacquer thinner; 39,185 pounds (645 tires) of aircraft and automotive tires; 18,950 gallons of used oil; 355 gallons of antifreeze; 13,262 gallons of cold solvent; 9,582 of universal waste lamps; 177 CFL lamps and 166 metal-halide lamps, as well as recovered 37.8 pounds of silver from its x-ray process. West Star reduced energy usage by 402,184 kilowatt hours (enough to provide 37 homes one year of electricity), reduced VOC pollutants by 1,862 pounds and eliminated methlyene chloride from use in its aircraft stripping operation.
