Duncan Aviation Installs Upgraded Rockwell Collins TDR-94Ds in Gulfstream 200

Duncan Aviation announces that its Satellite Avionics Shop in Atlanta, GA, has upgraded the Rockwell Collins TDR-94Ds on a Gulfstream 200, bringing the aircraft into compliance with the FAA’s mandate for Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out. Although not a first for Duncan Aviation, this was the first time the company’s Atlanta shop had completed the work.

Using the Approved Model List-Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for Part 25 aircraft developed by CMD Flight Solutions, the team in Atlanta upgraded the TDR-94Ds; added a new, standalone Free Flight Wide-Area Augmentation System (WAAS) sensor; rewired the inputs for the GPS; and installed two annunciators.

Including the time it took for Atlanta Satellite Shop Manager Edduyn Pita and his team to ship the transponders to Lincoln, Nebraska, for upgrading, the entire project was completed in just 10 days.

Duncan Aviation’s Avionics Shop in Lincoln has the authorization to upgrade the Rockwell Collins TDR-94s. The Satellite teams ship the units to Lincoln, and with advanced scheduling, the Lincoln team can turn the units in as little as one day, which dramatically decreases downtime for customers.

“We’re encouraging all of our customers to schedule time now – it’s not a good idea to wait because there isn’t enough capacity at qualified shops to perform upgrades on all of the aircraft that need ADS-B between now and midnight, December 31, 2019,” says Pita. “So many operators are going to be scrambling in the final few months of 2019, but based on sheer numbers, the longer you wait, the more you risk finding yourself AOG. Don’t wait! Schedule your upgrade now.”

Because time is running out and the Duncan Aviation Satellite network currently has capacity and labor resources, the company will allocate hangar space and labor resources for owner/operators who call now to reserve space through the rest of 2017 and into 2018 and 2019. The closer the deadline, the less capacity (labor and hangar space) qualified shops are going to have, so Duncan Aviation is taking a proactive approach to these necessary upgrades, and hoping its customers will schedule now. As Pita says, no one wants to be AOG as the New Year dawns on January 1, 2020.
