Duncan Aviation Counts Down to Deadlines for NextGen Mandates
Duncan Aviation is counting down the time remaining until the FAA’s December 31, 2019, deadline to install automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B)-compliant equipment in aircraft.
“We’re encouraging our customers to schedule their aircraft now to get the work done in 2017, and even 2018, because we’re noticing an uptick in activity at all of our facilities nationwide,” says Avionics regional sales manager Mark Francetic. “By waiting too long, operators could have a difficult time finding qualified technicians and hangar space to install the certified equipment by the mandate deadline. As of today, we’re inside of 39 months until the December 31, 2019, deadline.”
A few highlights of Duncan Aviation’s NextGen activity to-date include:
· development of the supplemental type certificate (STC) for the Primus ADS-B upgrades for Cessna 560 and Hawker 800 series aircraft
· STC development for the Honeywell NZ-2000 systems for Future Air Navigation Systems (FANS) upgrades in Challenger 601 aircraft
· STC co-development with SAFRAN Engineering for the ADS-B upgrades for Challenger 601 aircraft
· developmental assistance of an approved model list (AML) STC with ACSS for its NXT-700 ADS-B-compliant transponders; Duncan Aviation installed them in a Learjet 31A for a launch customer
· assistance to Universal Avionics and SAFRAN Engineering in developing future ADS-B upgrades for the Learjet 60
· assistance with the development of an STC with Rockwell Collins for its ADS-B-compliant PL21 Flight Management System; Duncan Aviation installed the system on King Air 200 and King Air 300 aircraft for launch customers
Duncan Aviation has access to or holds 37 FAA-approved solutions for ADS-B, which allows the company to perform upgrades on more than 100 aircraft models. In addition, Duncan Aviation is the only Rockwell Collins-authorized facility that can perform repairs and upgrades to the TDR-94 and TDR-94D transponders required to comply with the ADS-B mandate. Duncan Aviation also holds or has access to FANS solutions for 24 aircraft models. As needed, Duncan Aviation plans to seek foreign validations for the NextGen STC solutions the company holds.
