First-Ever Virtual AMT Day Celebration Was a Success!

The event was hosted by D.O.M. magazine and supported through the generosity of our sponsors

It was an idea that was born from a discussion between our editor, Joe Escobar, and myself as we were talking about how we should celebrate AMT Day this year. The thought came to us that there has got to be a way for all mechanics worldwide to celebrate AMT Day in some way — that there are thousands that don’t have access to a local event or have the luxury to take time off to celebrate — so why not offer an event that could be attended by anyone? It could span a length of time to allow all to attend over a lunch break, or before or after a shift at work. How about a Virtual Online event?

And so was born — the first Virtual AMT Day hosted by D.O.M. magazine. The idea was to talk about AMT Day, educate our audience, and give away lots of stuff to keep everyone participating in the event. Several hundred people participated during the 16-hour period that the event spanned.

It only made sense to host the event using our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/dommagazine), as Facebook already had the tools available to post links to videos, communicate with a broad audience, and post questions for the prize offerings. More than 30 items were given away and dozens participated in the question-and-answer period with the grand prize (a 42-inch big-screen TV) given away at midnight on May 24 to Michele Lindstrom! More than 40 participants answered the question at midnight for the big-screen TV!

Our congratulations to the following participants who won prizes during our Virtual AMT Day: Ivan Alonso, Kasey Baker, Mike Clancy, Jose Cordova Cabrices, Michael Davis, Jesus Fernandez, Jason Green, Tim Griffith, Jonathon Hendrickson, Jesecca Kaul, Fred W. Krueger, Michael Lammlein, Michele Lindstrom, Ken MacTiernan, Gary McGraw, Mark Meyers, Courtney Milbery, James Mitchell, Michael Molzahn, James Montgomery, Dennis Morgan, Scott Rexwinkle, Jeff Ryder, Matthew Schneider, Jason Smith, Tim Stone, Wade Storie, Ed Strehlau, Tom Williams, Chris Wilson, Marty Yerby and Wayne Young.

I’d also like to thank everyone that attended, with a special thanks to all that participated in the question-and-answer sessions. A huge thank you to the companies that sponsored the event, including Snap-On, WestStar Aviation, ShipItAog, Shure Step, NCATT, Greenwich AeroGroup, Duncan Aviation, Brown Tool, Charles Taylor II, and ACES. Prizes included ratcheting screwdrivers, a dynamic balancer, a step drill kit, “Pioneer Mechanics in Aviation” books, Shure Steps, pneumatic palm drills, gift certificates for golf, wine, duffles, flashlights, free certification from NCATT and more.

Something that’s really great about Facebook is that you can see how the event went for yourself. All of the information is still on our Facebook page to include the questions, links to videos, comments by participants, and more. Please take the time to go to our Facebook page and share it with friends. It’s educational and entertaining, and you are certain to learn a thing or two about how AMT Day began and why it is important.

We are definitely planning on hosting AMT Day on May 24, 2013, and we hope that you join us for what is sure to be an even bigger celebration of AMT Day!
