Midcoast Aviation first to install the PATS -5 configuration auxiliary fuel tanks in a Bombardier CRJ200SE

St. Louis, Missouri, March 25, 2010 – According to Midcoast Aviation, it is the first service center to replace the original RJ-SE PATS auxiliary fuel tanks in a corporate-configured Bombardier CRJ200SE. This modification prevents a reduction in the airplane’s flight range as a result of the original fuel tanks being deactivated. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandates all CRJ200SE aircraft deactivate original PATS fuel tanks per Airworthiness Directive 2008-22-01 in accordance with Special Federal Aviation Regulation (SFAR) 88.

Midcoast Aviation technicians modified the plane by removing the two original auxiliary fuel tanks and replacing them with PATS Aircraft Systems -5 tanks that meet the requirement specifications. In addition, the existing fuel lines were replaced, wire harnesses were rerouted and additional safety equipment that minimizes the potential of ignition sources, such as static discharge, in the fuel tank was installed.

“While Midcoast Aviation can perform this modification as a stand-alone project, we recommend this required service bulletin work be combined with the mandatory 192-month inspection,” notes Skip Madsen, vice president MRO operations.  “Midcoast can expertly perform both work scopes in a four-week period.”

Midcoast Aviation, an affiliate of the Jet Aviation Group of Companies, is a full-service AS9100-certified aircraft maintenance, modifications and completions provider. The company employs more than 1,500 people at the St. Louis Downtown Airport and its Savannah, Ga., locations. Just recently, the company announced that it renamed the Savannah-based MRO and completions center “Midcoast Aviation,” effective January 1, 2010. The Midcoast operations have in-house design and engineering departments, along with on-site cabinetry, upholstery, composite, avionics, sheet metal and paint shops. Midcoast Aviation is a Bombardier and Embraer authorized service center and also a Dassault Falcon, Hawker and Gulfstream center of expertise. For more information, visit www.midcoastaviation.com.

Jet Aviation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), was founded in Switzerland in 1967 and is one of the leading business aviation services companies in the world. Close to 5,100 employees cater to client needs from over 24 airport facilities throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North and South America. The company provides maintenance, completions and refurbishment, engineering, fixed base operations, along with aircraft management, charter services, aircraft sales and personnel services.
