Cobham Avionics – Artex Products Announces the Artex ME-232 and ME-183 Navigation Interface for the ME406 ELT

Aurora, Oregon (July 10, 2009) - Proving a continued commitment to “Saving Lives”, Cobham Avionics – Artex Products announces two Navigation Interface units compatible with the Artex ME406 ELT.  The ME-232 and ME-183 Navigation Interface units are designed to be connected between an aircraft’s current GPS and ME406 beacon.  Artex Navigation Interface units are compatible with both console mounted and hand held GPS devices.  In the event of ELT activation, the GPS location will immediately be sent to the Cospas/Sarsat satellite system by inclusion into the beacon information being transmitted.

Hannes Geiger, Director of Marketing for Cobham Avionics - Artex Products, commented “Although the 406 MHz signal alone is a remarkable improvement over the antiquated 121.5 MHz technology, the ME-232 and ME-183 Navigation Interface units will further enhance safety by using GPS data to pinpoint the aircraft location with the first transmission that is received by the satellite.  In addition, a key priority during development was compatibility with existing ME406 installations.”

Cobham Avionics - Artex Products Navigation Interface units will be on display at AirVenture in Oshkosh, July 27th through August 2nd.

Cobham Avionics is a division of Cobham plc, an international company engaged in the development, delivery and support of advanced aerospace and defense systems for land, sea, air and space. The company has four divisions that collectively specialize in the provision of components, subsystems and services that keep people safe, improve communications and enhance the performance of aerospace and defense platforms.
