FAA revises FAA Awards Program - renames it William (Bill) O'Brien Maintenance Technician Awards Program
The FAA has revised the FAA Awards program with a new web-based program that, among other things: Renames the program, offers an online learnling library at faasafety.gov website, and requires certain FAA "Core" training be done at all levels of the program.

AC 65-25E Aviation Maintenance Technician Program Change synopsis
1. Renamed William (Bill) O’Brien Maintenance Technician Awards Program.
2. AMT Awards Program administered on FAASafety.gov within the Maintenance Hangar. Activated by June 30th.
3. Requires completion of core training located in Learning Library at FAASafety.gov website.
4. Core training course/s focus on aviation maintenance accident/incident causal factors, special emphasis items, and regulatory issues. This training counts toward award levels.
5. Technician Award change from five levels to three levels:
Phase I, Bronze: Minimum of 12 hours of eligible training
Phase II, Silver: Minimum of 40 hours of eligible training
Phase III, Gold: Minimum of 80 hours of eligible training plus
satisfactory completion of 3-credit hour college level course or 40 classroom hours in Math, English, Science, Aviation Safety, Human Factors, Management, Quality Control, or similar aviation career related courses.
6. Pins no longer supplied. Industry sponsored AMT Decal with current year will be provided. Claim in January for previous year’s training.
7. Employer Award - two levels:
Gold Award of Excellence: Minimum of 50% of eligible employees receiving a technician award.
Diamond Award of Excellence: Minimum of 100% of eligible employees receiving a technician award.
Apply on line in February for previous year’s training.
8. Technicians upload their training and thus have available an on-line training database that can move with them and be provided to employers.
